SpaceX drops first look of Terafab facility

Kind: captions Language: en And we begin tonight with our very first ever look at what SpaceX's Terraab facility could look like in Grimes County. This new rendering video was released today and is giving us the clearest picture yet of just how massive this project really is. Thanks for being with us. I'm Ashley Bowererman. Today, Governor Greg Abbott publicly recognizing Terra Fab for the first time, formally announcing the project and extending a $30 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant to SpaceX. Our Lillian Kosh has been following this story all week and joins us with a deeper look. [snorts] We've been talking about Terraab for months now, but today, for the first time, we can actually see it. And what SpaceX is envisioning for Grimes County is nothing short of massive. The video SpaceX released today showed a rendering of a facility that would stretch 2 and a half miles long, more than 100 million square feet of manufacturing space, all under one roof. This will be larger than any building currently in existence and will be at least a 16.8 billion investment. SpaceX says the facility will consolidate chip manufacturing, packaging, and testing all in one location. In a formal release today, Governor Greg Abbott officially commented on the project, saying in part, "The firstofits-kind Terraab facility will accelerate chip production in the state, create thousands of goodaying jobs, and expand economic opportunity for generations of Texans." Tonight at 10, I'll sit down with a Texas&M engineer to better understand what it actually takes to build something like this and what Grimes County can actually expect over the next several decades.
