AI Satellite Production Building: Breaking ground mid-2026 ... Comparable Scale: More than 10x larger than Starfactory, SpaceX’s current largest spacecraft manufacturing site · Developer/Owner: SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies Corp.) ... Strategic Partners (Terafab chip supply chain): Tesla and xAI — co-developers of the Terafab semiconductor facility in Austin, Texas, targeting 2nm chip production
The early months of 2026 were busy for Elon Musk. The Texas billionaire oversaw the merger of SpaceX and xAI, announced plans for Tesla Inc.’s Terafab chip factory and continued working toward taking SpaceX public in a massive initial public offering.
The Terafab semiconductor manufacturing facility represents perhaps the most strategically significant development in the Tesla-SpaceX relationship, serving as both a commercial bridge and a technological moat for both companies. Announced in March 2026, this $25 billion joint venture between ...

In its S-1 filing (2) with the Securities and Exchange Commission, SpaceX outlined Terafab, a chip manufacturing initiative with a long-term goal of producing one terawatt of compute hardware each year.
Fox Business reported that Musk said Terafab will be two fabs in Austin, Texas, with one focused on Tesla chips and the other on chips for SpaceX’s space-based data centers. Fox Business also reported that Musk said the project is meant to meet demand for computing power that the companies cannot get from outside suppliers.
ASML (NASDAQ:ASML | ASML Price Prediction) sits at the top because Terafab can’t fabricate cutting-edge logic without extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, and ASML is the sole supplier. CEO Christophe Fouquet noted that “the semiconductor industry’s growth outlook continues to solidify, driven by ongoing AI-related infrastructure investments.
Musk’s answer is what he calls “Terafab” — a massive, vertically integrated manufacturing complex aimed at producing AI logic chips, HBM-class memory, and advanced packaging under one roof.
SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen said the initial orbital data centers will use Nvidia hardware, while longer-term versions are expected to rely on radiation-hardened chips from Terafab, the semiconductor project SpaceX is developing with Tesla and Intel.
ASML shares slipped 0.44% to €1,501.80 after a sharp AI-fueled rally, as investors shift focus from Elon Musk’s Terafab praise to whether it will drive real equipment
The S-1 explicitly classifies the space data center business as "high-risk, unproven early-stage technology" that may never achieve commercial success. The ultimate verdict on whether SpaceX can turn its orbital AI blueprint into a profitable reality will depend not on the IPO pop this Friday, but on whether the company's vertical integration strategy—combining Starship's low-cost launch, TeraFab's radiation-hardened silicon, and the Gigasat factory's mass productio

“Texas is where the integrated circuit was born and where the future of the semiconductor industry is being built,” Andrew Mahaleris, press secretary for Gov. Greg Abbott, said in a statement. Elon Musk’s company is building Terafab to create chips for its Starlink broadband internet ...
Musk framed the project as a necessity, saying, as quoted in reporting: "We either build the Terafab, or we don't have the chips, and we need the chips, so we build the Terafab." As a general matter, moving significant AI compute into orbit raises well-understood obstacles: generating and storing large amounts of power, dissipating heat from high-performance accelerators without atmosphere, hardening processors against radiation, and moving data to and from the ground at high thro

It said that if investment tied to the massive terafab semiconductor plant championed by Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk materializes, it could generate an additional $30 billion to $70 billion of semiconductor demand for WFE in 2027 and 2028. Mizuho also forecast the WFE market at $190 billion next year, citing increased investment in high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, and DRAM by Samsung Electronics and Micron.
SpaceX says it is targeting one gigawatt of orbital AI compute by the end of 2026, scaling to 100 gigawatts within three-and-a-half years. To power those orbital data centers, SpaceX says it needs chips, a lot of them. That is where Terafab comes in.
Terafab is the joint semiconductor fabrication initiative by Tesla, SpaceX (post-xAI), and Intel, announced March 21, 2026. It aims to be the “most epic chip-building effort ever,” vertically integrating logic, memory, and advanced packaging ...
